Has anyone here tried to dye a carpet? My brother has a spare new carpet from his build that will fit my car, only it's brown and needs to be black. Is it worth even trying, or should I just get a new black carpet? Any product advise would be appreciated if you have it.

I concidered it on my car. I had brand new green carpet and paid $110 for it. I then decided I'd going black as well. Best I can figure, it will take at least 2 cans of die at 13 bucks each after tax. I bought new carpet at the Indy swap meet for 80 bucks and sold my new/old green carpet for 40 bucks. Got really upside down on the whole thing. I'm dying my new $600 green seats black and the die works pretty good... Even if it takes 3 cans, I'd go for it.

BTW, I'm using SEM Colorcoat. People recommended the "Landau Black" color, becauce it closely matches the original. It's easy to apply on vinyl.

i would try it if i needed to. for the first coat, spray it on and work it in with a scrub brush. then give it a second coat. i bet it would turn out great.

The carpet is a light brown/saddle type color. I bet it would take real good to a black dye job. I guess I'll give it a go and see what happens The worst I'll be out is a free carpet and some dye. I don't have any door panels, so those will be re-pops when the time comes.
