Is it necessary to pre-oil new push rods before installing them? I installed a new set of push rods along with the rocker arm assemblies on a new engine I am putting together (my first) and a friend of mine asked if I pre-oiled the push rods by dunking them in oil. I didn't as I hadn't heard of this. I lubed the ends with assembly grease and am going to pre-oil the motor with a priming rod so I don't really understand the point in dunking them in oil. Is there any need to do as he suggested or will it be O.K. as-is? It took some time to get all of the rocker arms set properly so I would hate to have to take them all off to get the push rods out just to dunk them in oil but I will if I have to. I also like to roll the motor while priming the oil pump, that way it oils the top end.

I would say if you lubed the ends you are good to go.
