it was a '70 Plymouth e-body (Barracuda, Gran Coupe, 'cuda) - is it 18 or 23-spline?

No input shaft, but does have the gears with the bushings (I think only in 18 spline trans) is there a way to count the teeth? Or some way to tell what to look for?

It is from a Barracuda or Cuda.

all I want to know is if this is an 18 spline trans, reason I asked what it came out of? Basically all apart in a big box with no input shaft, case does have cluster still in it. If not an 18 I’m taking it back to the guy I bought it from.
Contacted Brewers and he gave me the info I needed

'70 and earlier Hemi box would have the 2.65-1 low gear.

I can use this thanks, Brewer said the 18 cluster has two milled rings between 3-4, mine has those. I can count the teeth tonite

John, I thought all the OEM production street car NP833 18 spline tranny up to 1970 where the 2.66 first gear tranny

Hemi - course spline (18 tooth maindrive pinion) is 2.65. 1971 course spline went to 2.44.

All other V-8 are fine spline (23 tooth maindrive pinion)2.66.

Exceptions are slant six, off-road, etc.

Edit - originally addressing Cab’s comment “up to 70 MY”. “Exceptions” mentioned above include TA/AAR for 1970.

70 AAR/TA 23 spline was 2.47,followed by all 71 and up.
