FAST had our last race of the year at Maryland International Raceway, and Ed Cook had his 63 Savoy Max Wedge flying!
Multiple passes in excess of 130 mph and a personal best of 10.26 @ 131.70
Congrats Ed!

Unless I’m mistaken......... the quickest and fastest 3 Mopar wedges that have run in FAST have all come out of Ed’s place. Two A12’s(1 stick, 1 auto), and this MW car.
All have run deep into the 10’s on bias ply tires.

How does that car get away with a hood scoop. I thought factory lightweight cars could not compete in FAST? No steel car ever had a scoop either.
As for running within a few tenths of a legal race car - about 70 + more cubic inches, fully ported heads, high ratio pistons with trick ring lineup, and .750 + lift. And i’m guessing a serious weight reduction program on the engine, trans and whole car.
Not knocking it or any other FAST car, they are a whole lot more than what they appear.
And for the tires. Read the rule book. Not uncommon to see them running bald tires that have been treaded to chemical compounds.
The class is sort of like a good magician. But pretty cool.
Lots of tricks from the old Woodward days. I wasn't noting the mph itself. But how close the ET is for that mph on small tires, treated, bald or not. Doug

As a reference, to Doug’s point...... the Moroso P/S calculator shows 131.7 to be worth a 10.12. Pretty close!! Most of the time in FAST the speed is way better than the ET(like Rick Mahoney’s Hemi Cuda that went 10.15@142). Ed must have gotten blessed by the traction gods on that pass.

The Hemi’s, A12’s, Corvettes, Cobra jet mustangs, all the heavy hitters run on 15’s. The Max Wedge cars run on 14’s which makes this feat even more impressive.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.
