Can someone show me side by side pictures or explain the difference between a 70 and later year Challenger bulge Hoods. From what I understand their are Breakaway points on the 70 hood that they did away with in later years.
Thanks

Nothing more then a "crease" placed on rail section just front of hinge bolt area. Was suppose to "allow" the hood to "fold upward" in a front collision, as opposed to rear lip going thru window & decapitating occupants,

In addition to the breakaway points you mentioned, the 1970 Challenger hood does not have a provision (i.e. bracket mount for the secondary hood release) that later hoods have. The yellow hood is a '70 w/o the provision. The white hood has the provision and where the release rod support bracket attaches.

70 hoods are way different in two major ways. However there were changes during the model year.

First is the bracing frame rail. Early 70 hood frame rails are solid all the way. Very late 70 cars and all 71+ have rails that have notches (2 per rail) to help the hood fold in an accident.

Second is the hinge bolt size. It is smaller in 70 than in 71 and beyond. I do not think this changed happened until 71. So it is possible to have a late hood with notches but smaller hinge bolts which is the case on late 70 Shaker Challengers.
