Hello,

I have a AAR 4 speed car but without my original motor or trans (FYI...VIN 0B292347).

So I'm taking my 70 trans out of my car and taking it to Brewers to have it setup to be a TA trans. Was thinking it was only gears that were different. But I was looking on the web and saw a document stating the INTER-LOCK trans were introduced at the time of the AAR and TA's and used on them??? IS THAT A TRUE STATMENT??? Just looking to set my car up correctly sense I've been unsuccessful in finding my trans. I attached a pic of the doc... Hope it comes across!!!

Any help would be GREATY appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott

According to the factory parts catalog, the T/A trans (3410 790) used the same side cover (2464 001) as all other '70 833's. The page is dated 1972 so it should show all updates.

I have built a T/A transmission and there is really nothing different than other A833 transmissions. The 70 trans you have is probably correct unless somebody installed the better ball-detent cover instead of the lever type cover in your picture. If you aren't building a total resto that is going to be judged the ball-detent side cover works better IMHO twocents

I have never personally seen a 70 model year 4-speed with the lever style side cover. The T/A & AAR were the first to use the 2.47 close ratio gearset, it was standard for all 71 and newer 23 splines.

iagree
I've owned and work on several original T/A and AAR 4 speed cars, all of them had the cast iron side cover, not the later aluminum used from 1971 on shruggy
I'm trying to remember when the T/A and AAR production started and stop, I'm thinking from 11-1969 to maybe 3-1970 confused scope
I know a lot of those cars sat on dealers lots unsold for a longtime shruggy

Thanks for all your comments. When I ran across that doc it got me really confused. My cars not getting judged, I just thought if I'm going through the effort I would get it totally correct.

Thanks again,
Scott

The transmission that was given to me for the re-build was the original to the car being restored and it had an interlock cover but the wrong ratio though so it was a mystery to me because I had to dig up a 2.47 gear set. I thought the interlock was the original cover for the AAR he was working on.

I do seem to remember in the old Direct Connection Performance books stating that the AAR/TA transmissions used the lever side cover but I never worked on one anywhere close to original so I can not say from experience if it was true or not.

The trans in my AAR is the original and I believe a ball type cover, I know it is cast iron if that answers the question. It's been a few years and a few builds ago but I'm pretty sure. I looked for a build picture but none of them included the cover.
