I got the Shortblock together last night, not another mockup but ready to run this time.
Went together almost the same as anything else.
I did a quick phone video on how to install spirolox. If anyone has trouble it might come in handy later.
Notes: Dorman 555-012 expansion plug fits the oil pickup hole. I also put a metal plate+rtv over it and locktited the 2x 1/4-20s... Overkill...I don't want an internal air leak or to lose the plug.
I'm now In a relationship with My Tapered ring compressor-where have you been all my life. Love it....so smooth..... But it did interfere with the head dowel pin near #1. Either a tiny notch In the tool or pull the dowel....otherwise the compressor wouldn't line up With the hole. I caught it before I damaged any rings. Once that was solved, It sure worked slick.
Since I will start out with super comps, the goofy cross studs won't have Interference problems there. But, the front left stud hits the oil pump. Replaced with an arp bolt with sealer, torqued to 45, done.
.023 rod side clearance, .0032 rods, .0033 to .0034 mains, .0075 piston to wall, .024 and .026 On the rings..it's loose, it's deliberate..... oil rails verified .015, .005 end play, second cam in at 107, Ended up with a smaller cam than before. Still need to do the cam end play thing.
This is a real bucket list item for me. Other things started happening In that vein which I posted about in general area. Fun stuff.
Second victor head is coming direct from Edelbrock.
That's about it for now I guess

Oh and thatβs about how far along I was when I found out my Keith Black block needed clearance grinding for my pushrods. That was a major setback.

Tapered ring compressors are life changing. I also had to file a semi-round divot on the outside to clear the dowel. Everything looks great!

Thanks all, I'm pretty stoked to say the least.
Dwayne, I will need your help choosing spring pressure specs for this beast. I think I know what I want but I'd really like to hear it from you to see if I'm far off. The new cam is a Crane .400 Street Roller. It's 262/266, .640/.620 gross on a 112 with my rocker combo, installed at 107ICL. I was going to run .020 lash as they specify. This seems like it should have nice street manners? Amazingly Crane had it sitting there on the shelf, 2 day ground delivery....the polar opposite of Comps current BBM business plan you had mentioned. The package was dated April of '19 IIRC.

Which ring compressor did you use ? Been looking for awhile . Gary Gary, Summit PN 904500. Need to order yours per the bore size, so a search Criteria of "X.000" (<---bore dimension) ring compressor" brings up What's out there. What are you working on? Rich

Which ring compressor did you use ? Been looking for awhile . Gary I just saw that a racer on another forum had a bad experience with a Proform compressor, it was out of round and causing him problems. He switched to an ARP and no issues. I have also used and ARP in the past with out problems.

What kind of rocker gear are you using on those heads? A friend of mine is building a similar 572 with those heads and had a lot of issues getting rockers that were correct. Jim.

T&D is the unlimited budget option and your very best choice. Want the best, there you go...pay up! I got the guided tour of them from a local Horsepower God and they are great. Am I using them, no. I need to put that 3 grand into the rest of the car instead, so I'm staying a little Closer to stock. For reasons I understand maybe better than most, it's never seemed fashionable To say anything nice about Mopar Performance, but out of the ones I've tried the MP rockers fit the best. That said, I'm going to make Indy products work On the intake side and will use MP On the exhaust. After working with these I see why the roller intake is very helpful.

I have an Indy Max block 4.375 , nothing special . Have been using my old crank down spring sleeve . Time to upgrade . Thanks for the info . Gary Very cool, good luck with your build. Aluminum still seems really exotic to me, in spite of them being out for many years. I started with the spring sleeve compressor too but the chamfers are almost non-existent on this one, and it Just wasn't working too well. The old tool still works okay on stock blocks where they hogged out a .060 wide Chamfer at the top π take care Rich
