340-6 all stock - do I stay with a Pertronix type igntion? or MSD unit?
or?
Not concerned if it looks stock or not. Just want something reliable.

Thanks!

If you have the Pertronix right now I would stay with it. My preference is a regular older (non Mallory) MP dist/HEI module/E coil.

I have some aftermarket crap on there now, and was gonna go with the Pertronix, but it's been awhile so I didn't know if there was a new flavor of the day for ignition systems.

I have always relied on the old MSD 6AL box and a mag pick-up distributor. I'm currently running a Firecore tall mechanical distributor, 6AL, and Blaster SS coil with good results thumbs

hi

dump the aftermarket crap and use the originl !

points or electronic mopar systems are fine .

what makes you think you need aftermkt junk ?

set up my sons doul point 7 years ago and havent messed with it yet ? 318 -13.4

i have the electronic system as car came with it . 440- 12.3 street able cars .

Points are okay if you are doing an older restoration, but I much prefer an electronic ignition if it's something I'm going to drive on a regular basis. I have always had good reliability with a factory distributor and a decent parts house ECU. I like to set it and forget it.

MSD is made in china now, so that that for what it's worth as far as reliability goes.

I would always carry a spare ECU. & If useing a RTR type, a complete points dist setup in the trunk if it craps out.

I've been installing and running Pertronix systems on my toys and customers projects since the early 90's....I can honestly say I've never had an issue with a system I installed....proper installation and compatible components are key to avoiding issues

my personal junk hasn't been out in years, but i have installed two pertronix kits for my one buddy.
a 70 super bee, 383 4spd, and a 72 duster, 318 904. both of those have been trouble free for years.

I think you and Moparx are right. I've ran the Pertronix before on an AAR and a Demon 340 and no issues. I'll probably run that on this new to me T/A. Like I said, I've been outta the hobby car wise for a few years and didn't know if there was a new kid on the block. I had previously also heard good things about the MSD setup.

Thanks to all that responded!
