My guess would be cast. I think mid 1973 or so cars switched to cast cranks. I've read some still got a forged crank if it had a 4 speed or was a truck or police engine. Others will more knowledge will chim in I'm sure.

Can you get a photo of the balancer (harmonic damper)?
Likely a cast crank with the big lumpy balancer.

Standard performance likely cast, HP could go either way.

it is std so it sounds like the odds are that it is cast. If I get serious about I will have him eyeball it or take a pic. Thanks guys.

If you arent planning on hooking it to a 4spd and won't be turning mega HP numbers, a well seasoned cast crank can take plenty of abuse.

It's a pretty good shape original that I would keep as a daily driver . I'd be a little more generous if it would be a steel crank.

Weren't steel cranks gone after 1972 in the 440, HP or not?

I guess I should have written gone after '73, not '72, either way he's asking about '74.

It honestly makes zero difference for what you want it for. It's lasted 45 years, I think you'll be good. shruggy

Yes for a DD it makes no difference but if it is a steel crank it may (eventually) find a new home.

And, if you're like me, it feels really nice knowing you have a steel crank. I love overkill.
