I have a set of 440-1 heads that I would like to get brought into 21st century. Heads were originally ported/flowed by Muscle Motors in 2001, I am attaching the flow sheet. I had to practically beg them over a 2 month time frame to send me the flow sheet. I have always had doubts that it is really the flow sheet for my heads, and not just one they pulled out of their files and sent me to get me off their back. I have called and emailed Modern Cyl Heads, and Chad Speier but I guess they do not need any more business as they never returned my call or emails. Heads are on my 500 cu. in. 8.71 blown/injected, on alcohol, dragster. So I am looking for a good head guy. Thanks Dave

Nick Jr. at Compuflow did mine. I'm really happy with them. Jr. is a very bright young man and he really paid attention when his father taught him how to port heads and build engines. If he is too busy Bart Anderson is very good too and he also learned some tips from Nick to make Indy heads flow nice. If you wan't more info send me a PM so I can get your info to either of these gentlemen. Gus

Give some consideration into stepping up to a 2.250 intake valve when you send them out. I ported the set I am putting on a 505 and they are flowing great but I want to see how close to 400 cfm I can get them to. The 440-1 heads get a weight break as the B1 heads do not so I’m curious how far I can get them.

If they were my heads they would be on the way to Porter Racing Heads in VT. If that is too far away from you then you might consider IMM in Indio, CA or Fastlane Machine in Utah. If he has to put them in a box and ship,PORTER might be $40 more in shipping,,,or less they are aluminum Define too far..........

Dwayne did my 440-1’s. Excellent job. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him. My EZ-1’s were done by Nick Sr. Did not know his son took over after he passed away. That’s good to hear that the family business is still going.

Porter would be my choice.
The Goodwin raised port indy heads sold by Best Machine would be something I would want if my wallet would allow

Dwayne told me years ago to send my Eddy RPM to Modern for CNC porting, that was before Jeff passed away I had him do several CNC porting on some B1-BS and some other 440-1 , all ran good on the motors Bob has told me several years ago that he is very busy now and the normal porting delivery time is about 3 to 4 months out after he receives them I tried a local roundy round race machine shop in Vancouver, WA last year on one of my own street motors and ended up being very disappointed on a set of 440-1 that I wanted them to replace the valve guides and anything else they needed, they came back with the guides way looser than I like or expected They had done some other street motor head work for me in the past that was good, not anymore now My message is go for the best you can get when it comes to head work, just like brain surgery

Yes,there are several porters around,I feel that the porting procedure is only part of the picture! Dwayne will not only port and flow your heads, but help you with the entire package.Match a cam and the right springs to your heads, better off letting him assemble the head !!!

Thanks for the recommendations guy's.
I spoke with Dwayne and had a good talk about my issues. It seems it would be a waste to mess with these heads so he saved me some money on these..lol
Good guy to talk to. I'll send out my next set of heads to him.

Lots of cylinder head guys out there. If you want hands down the BEST then I would talk to Tom Slawko at Slawko racing heads. Self Racing Heads is another very good shop. The aforementioned shops I am sure also do very good work. Dwayne is always highly spoken of, and I have had some stuff done by CompuFlo and it was nice.

We're you looking for improvements beyond what he considers cost effective for those heads?

Shane and his Dad specialized in NHRA stokers and SS, not all out street motors usually I used Don on some of my iron heads for street and strip a long time ago, several years before he moved to Utah and passed away Al Etter moved 1/2 a block down the street from me in Hesperia before we moved up here to Oregon My how time has flown

Dwayne Porter for sure. I’ve been using him for over 15 years and very happy with everything he’s done for me. He does fantastic port work, but also extremely informative, honest, quick and fair.
