The 440 I have has the Crane Gold rocker arm kit on a set of stealth heads with the Hughes rocker shaft hold downs. When I put the nuts on the shaft studs the nut only goes on about half way leaving alot of the threads left on the nut whic worries me.
How far do you guys run your studs into the head before putting on the nuts? I was told you are not supposed to bottom out the stud into the head but back them out a turn or two....but that still doesnt account for the nut only going on half way.

Any body else running these hold downs?

I have the same problem, You are supposed to set them so the nuts are even with the top of the stud. If you do it like that, the lenght of the stud below the shaft is about the same as a stock bolt. I would have liked them to be longer to get more thread engagment.

I run them on SB Edelbrocks. I put a drop of blue loctite on them and screwed them so the studs just barely sticks out of the nut. Just don't let the loctite go down into the oil feed hole.

get longer studs , obviously the studs you have are too short for how deep the holes are in your heads . are they studs for stock iron heads? Contact Greg Z. I think he has stud kits specifically for Ebrock heads which are longer ...

I'm not sure if MagnumHP is still in business or not. I haven't heard from GregZ in a long time but his website does seem to be up and running.

I worked with ARP last fall to develop a stud kit as an ARP part number. They should have it available by now. 10 studs, 10 nuts, 10 washers. 6 shorter studs and 4 long ones. We checked all the lengths with various heads, rocker shaft hold downs, etc. I shot some pictures and had it all figured out for them so hopefully they go ahead and issue a part number. People are always asking for the darn kit.

Yep... I'm looking for one right now. I've e-mailed GregZ's Magnum HP account to see if he's still in business.

Also, I checked ARP's latest online catalog and I can't find anything about rocker shaft studs or kits. That hardware must be buried somewhere in their catalog where it's not obvious.

I don't know if ARP ever assigned a part number to the kit or not. I worked with them to get the correct stud dimensions, nuts and washers. They have all of the info, I just haven't followed up with them. They made up a couple of kits for the book I was writing and sent the kits to me for verification. Everything fit just fine and I used those stud kits on some of the dyno engines that I tested for the book.

Ron on the sales line is the guy I worked with. If you call ARP he'll know if they ever set up a part number and started to stock the kits.

Mine are from RAS and fit fine. Ran the studs in until they were finger tight. I don't know if Stealths require longer studs than Eddys

We are lengthening our studs a little in the next batch.

GregZ replied and said he's still running Magnum HP as an online business only (no shop now). The link to the ARP stud kit for standard heads is: http://www.magnumhp.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=36_37&products_id=313

He also lists a kit w/ the longer 4 studs (2 per head) required for Indy heads, but I don't have that link here.

90% of the time the studs in the kit were fine. As you guys have already discussed, the studs should not be bottomed out in the heads. If you have a problem just give me a call and I will see what I can do.
