Modifying late model computer controlled engines is waaaaay out of my scope ....so I am asking here.
I have a 2007 Ram 1500 that I really like and want to keep. I'm curious about how far one can deviate from stock while staying within the operating system of the OBD2 system.
I use the truck for work and play. I'm not looking to make it a high rpm mill, I just want more torque and midrange. I'm considering rebuilding the original engine or a core from a wrecking yard. A stroker crank could increase power with no penalty in driveability but would that cause problems for the fuel injectors not being able to keep up? I hate to seem so naive, I just don't know how sensitive the stock computers are to changes.
I have heard that some headers result in a "check engine" light. I can only imagine what a big cam would do.
It has a 3.55 diff. I may step up to a factory 3.92 gear.

On yours I would grab a 6.1 and drop it in for a nice gain of both with an engine that will still work with the stocck computer and if you paint it black it will look the same.

I would assume it means everyone agrees maybe?

Sometimes the questions that I ask must be so obscure, hardly anyone knows how to respond...OR they don't like me enough to post anything!

Do you want to remain smog legal or just be able to pass smog tests?

Both, actually. I live in CA now but may move out of state and I don't know what the emission laws will be wherever I go.
