'93 Dakota, 2WD, truck has 181K miles.

Installed new brake pads this past weekend and found where the pads ride there are divots wore into the bracket. The passenger side was the worst as it actually felt like it was mushroomed out a little. For the time being, I carefully filed the surfaces so the divots aren't so pronounced, but they are too deep to completely remove this way.

Do they make a repair piece that can be snapped in place for just such a problem? (like those sleeves to repair harmonic balancers).

Or is weld and machine the surface the only cure? (I doubt I can find used ones in better shape).

Thanks!

I would say grease the slides and let it go. The pads don't fit that tight to begin with.

I have welded and ground down wear like that.

You might be able to find some abutment clips that can be installed over the guides. Not sure anyone makes a kit but scrounging around the wrecking yard might find something that could work.

Lots of newer jeeps and fords used clips.

Those don't look that bad, I've seen some up here in the rust belt with nearly 1/4" deep bidets! I usually weld them up and grind them flat again. The good news is that after they are welded, they last a long time, the weld (with a Mig) is harder then the original steel was. With a light coating of white molly grease, the welded ones will probably outlast your truck. Gene

Thanks guys.

As mentioned, the passenger side was the worst. The passenger side brake kept hanging up, and I always thought it was caliper related, but now I think it had to do with the divot.

I filed everything flat, and put a thin coat of grease on there. It seems better already, but I need to put some miles on it.

Different model but same design on my 300m. The pads I bought came with stainless caps you put over the slides to eliminate these divots if you had them. Let the pads slide on a nice smooth surface. I am sure they must be sold separately.

If you bye good brakes, they usually come with New abuntment clips. Cheap brakes don't come with new clips. Without the clips, you get brake pad rattle and noises...

Show use one for the OP's application.

I looked at over 40 pad sets for it. Zero come with these "abuntment clips".

So I looked at calipers, Zero come with these "abuntment clips".

I looked at caliper hardware kits, Zero come with these "abuntment clips".

This particular caliper mount design has been used since 1973 with the same issue and of all of those applications, zero come with these "abuntment clips" and the aftermarket has made none for them.

Let's try to not send people on wild goose chases for something that doesn;t exist.
