‘66 Baracuda. 273 4spd. Just making it run and see if we can go two years driving it before sinking money into it. However, the clutch is shuddering at take off. The clutch has been in a while and has sat a long while. What is the minimum to consider in a fix. TOB, clutch, face off pressure plate, all of the above or something less. The 273 is going to be replaced with a 408 in two years so whatever we do will be chucked then anyway.

Minimum?

Disc

could be oil on it, clean PP and flywheel.

If time is no issue pull it and see what needs doing.

If you just want to get it done, clutch kit and flywheel resurface.

Don't be the exception.

Most of the cost of fixing is the time and effort to remove and install the transmission.

You can try to live with it. If its too bad, suggest you get a stock replacement clutch kit (includes TO bearing, pressure plate, disc, alignment tool). The 273 should not need any special kind of performance clutch. Pull it apart and have a local machine shop re-surface the flywheel and put it back together and enjoy.

Try a couple hard launches. I had a car sit once so long that the disc transferred some friction material to the PP/flywheel. A couple good launches burnt this off and life went on. I wouldn't get carried away with this, if a couple good launches doesn't work, it probably isn't going to.

My thoughts exactly. Also, make sure the motor mounts and trans mount are not broken. Especially the drivers side. You can hold the brake, start to let out the clutch in 1st and see if the driver's side of the motor lifts up. Try it in reverse to see if the passenger side is broken. You don't have to get carried away to see the motor lift, but be careful.
