When going with a strut front end is it possible to use the factory front frame rails (1975 duster)? I already have a snout bar going from my cage to the shock mount and tied to the front of the frame rail just trying to figure out how much I may have to undo to make this change. Check out some of the heads up cars. Lots of classes require Stock front frames but allow A arms or struts

Yea you can!! I did just that on my 68 B'cuda except my snout bar goes from the firewall to the frame with the shock mount tied into it. I mounted the top strut mount on the snout bar and built my own k-frame to mount the control arms and the R&P mount. I debated long and hard about which front frame rails to purchase until I convinced myself that I could use the existing stock frame. One reason I was hesitant was some time ago a member here did it using the stock frame and he said he wouldn't attempt it again. All attempts to determine why he didn't like it went unanswered. I believe it is in the implementation and mine is simple and appears to be satisfactory. However, I haven't had it on the track as yet so how it handles is yet a mystery. The major recommendation I have is to be certain your ride height is adequate when setting up. Mine is very low and I have it worked out but it would have been better if it was set up at least a couple inches higher. That's one thing I'm a little concerned with is how low it may end up being. Do you have any pictures of your setup?

Will this be for drag only or for the street also.. the biggest issue is getting the strut length you need if its going on the road Drag only

Yes you can, may have to add a loser attaching point but it can be and has been done.

The problem that I have seen is most diy guys don' know how to set ride height before they start welding things together. That also goes for width also. Most drag struts only have 3" of travel so spring choice is critical. You don't use the spring to set your ride height. Guessing can get expensive when buying the correct spring. Scaling the car is the cheapest way. As long as you can make brackets and have the understanding of how struts are to be mounted there should be no problem.
it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

Will this be for drag only or for the street also.. the biggest issue is getting the strut length you need if its going on the road Drag only I built my whole car.. it not that hard.. you just need to get your camber and caster set right when your building the front end and get the ride height where you want it.. set it up on paper first.. I made little 3D cut outs first so I could see the movement of the struts.. I went with 10* caster so it would drive nice and straight.. was perfect for my short wheel base

Thanks, that gives me a real good idea of how things would end up. I know doing a whole front clip would be the best to save the most weight, but wonder how much weight difference there would be between doing a strut front end with stock frame like pictures vs the bolt in tubular suspension like the gerst setup.
