It appears to have the 5-disc front clutch pack. Also has the 2 inch double wrap rear band and a flex front band (this came out of a 78 Dodge Diplomat police car - 318 4bbl engine). I found a broken piece - a round piece with a hole in the middle (looks like a flat donut) that is magnetized. Not sure where this goes, yet. What advice can anyone you give me as I get ready to start the rebuild? I have a TF2 kit and Red Eagle friction plates and Kolene steels. I will be replacing seals, etc. Thanks for any insight you can give.

If the round piece you found was in the bottom of the pan, and is silver dollar sized, it is a magnet and isn't broken. It's there to collect and metal particles that get in the fluid from normal trans wear.

Thanks for the info, Stumpy. I kind of thought that's what it was for. It's in two pieces and was "hanging" onto the valve body when I removed it. I guess that wouldn't stop it from doing it's job, though. I need to order new bands (from Makco Transmissions?), then be about ready to clean and put her back together.

be sure & order the correct bands(type). I'm not sure which ones but someone will chime in.

Thanks Rapid..... It had a flex band for the front band, and the rear was a double wrap. I assume that's what I should order as replacements, or is there a better option?

Thanks again, Robert. I will wait to order. Seems like I remember something long those lines also - which bands to get.

By the way, there is usually a dipple in the pan that the magnet goes around to hold it in one corner of the pan.

I didn't notice a dimple - of course, I haven't really looked for one, either There is a rubber "plug" - maybe that would do it, too.
