I thought they were all made in china Just don't want the new one to break too. I found his post. Funny how quickly the threads get pushed back.

Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first.
Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

Was it a rebuilt one or a new one? How long had it been installed?
Did it rub up against the block? Wasn't there some deal about mini starters and big blocks. Lie you had to grind the block for clearance or get a certain mini starter?
Thats a good point. If there was ANY contact with the block the starter bolts could have induced tremendous pressure on the snout as it was tightened down.

I have these wonderful Hedman 2-1/8 headers that touched the starter. So when I replaced it this last time I dented the header so they would not touch. and wrapped the tube with heatwrap. Last long Mini touch but did not break. This short mini did not touch but broke. I just put a RobbMC starter in today.

Well the RobbMC starter looks pretty nice. I forgot but I think they use the Hitachi motor vs. the Nippondenso. Hopefully I won't have this problem again they certainly don't look like they will get heat soaked. The big plus is they can be clocked into any position as long as it does not hit something.

Thanks HS. We use US designed Remy (f.k.a. Delco Remy) motors and solenoids. Everything forward of the motor is our own design.
You should have a lot more header clearance with our starter. Not only can you rotate the solenoid to any position, but our motor is directly behind the pinion gear on the starter (rather than offset to one side). This puts the motor closer to the block, approximately where the solenoid is on your old Denso style starter.
