Was wondering if anyone knows what size cotter pin for front wheel bearings on 1970 B-Body with disc brakes
There was a 1/8" in there, same size as ball joints use, but it seems I can fit a larger 5/32" in. Or does it even matter?
Thanks, Jeff

I would go with the larger one so long as it fits without having to wrestle it in there. Just make sure it doesn't rub on the grease cap.

The larger 5/32 cotter pin slides in easily, but the loop end won't clear the grease cap. Maybe I'll squeeze the loop end a little in a vice to allow it to go down further.

The strength is more important than the diameter, correct work
It is design to keep the nut from moving, correct work shruggy
I don't even spread the bottoms out anymore shruggy It can't bounce out, correct shruggy

the only drawback to not spreading the ears, the spindle and nut are stationary, while the hub turns. if [for whatever reason] the cotter pin backs up a tad, it "might" rub against the spinning hub cover, introducing metal shavings into the grease.
i just spread the legs a tick, roughly 1/8", just enough to prevent movement.

Thanks for your replies,
In my never ending quest for knowledge, I found this at work in the machinist handbook. So, if I can fit a 5/32" pin in the hole, a 1/8" is definitely too small of a cotter pin.
I will take a closer look at it this weekend.
Just wanted to share this info
