Daughter’s low mileage Durango threw P0456 today but it has no gas cap. I cannot imagine any of the hoses or tubes are cracked and leaking. What’s likely to be happening?

I've also read the filler hoses leak too. What sucks is the emissions warranty is only 2 years.

Check the vacuum hose at the purge solenoid. some are cracking on lower side of hose.

I had that code haunting me on my truck it would get the code I guess when it monitored the Evap system. I disconnected each part, and line and tested them all individually with a mighty vac. Plastic line in the middle of the truck had a crack.

If it has a capless system it could have some crap holding the filler hole seal open a little. clean it with wd 40 . also may have a small rust hole or a bad/cracked hose connection , aren't new cars fun?

My daughter lives eight hours away. So I am sharing with her the easy things I am reading and hearing on the potential causes. Hopefully it will be obvious and she can troubleshoot it herself. She can get help fixing it if she is able to find it easy enough. The vehicle is garage kept and she is very conscientious about taking care of it. The problem is not likely to be from abuse or neglect. Im thinking something like the TB and the tubing is cracked at the valve.

I repeatedly had the same code on my 03 Dakota. It was always a cracked rubber evap line--usually split lengthwise at a fitting. I would replace a split hose, 6 mos later the code would return and I would find a different split hose in another area of the truck.

I think I eventually replaced every single piece of hose running from the intake manifold, charcoal canister, and purge solenoid.

Once I replaced all the crappy factory rubber lines with fuel line from the auto parts store, the code stayed away for good and has not returned.

Sometimes this code can be a simple fuel filler cap change--but in my case that did not fix the problem.
