Just want a mopar ignition box for a street car. Is the Summit box good? Can't trust the Napa ones, 4 out of 4 bad. Pulled on off and old car, fired right up. Unfortunately all the epoxy sealer leaked out of that one.

Std motor products LX101 (NOT lx101T) is the only commercially/readily available halfway decent one I am aware of.

There are some fly by night ones out there sold by sensitive individuals. When you have a problem with their product, suddenly they ain't so sensitive anymore, though. They have their moparts fan base.

MP killed that whole product line, and...whatever...

Don't buy anyone's "house brand" painted orange.

This is one of the reasons I got away from them for basic street cars, and started going with HEI modules instead. TFI coil pairs up really nicely and gives a nice spark.

I never really considered the gm hei route...... I had more of a “just put an msd in it” mind set.

But I can see the attraction to using a cheaper, readily available system like the hei conversion.

I’d def try it.

I like the idea of getting rid of the ballast resistor and running a modern style coil.

the LX101 will do everything you want and probably be the least expensive. I use LX101's.

I went to a large E core coil, original application 1990 F150 with a 351. Cost about 9 bucks, and (per their charts) it is also compatible with both MSD6 and 7 series ignitions so it's pretty universal.

For the module I looked up 1979 Corvette, but I think they are pretty much all the same.

Makes a nice spark.

Here is a thread I posted about it awhile back.

https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/2291558/1.html

I've been thinking about making a batch of mopar-specific coil brackets for this setup but don't really know if they would sell. Seems most Mopar guys have not discovered the TFI coil yet.

Here is the spark I got from a TFI coil and an HEI module, triggered by an old 1980s MP electronic dist. This is on my C body....

I have a Summit ignition, I would sell for whatever is half of the new price. I ordered it for a run in stand that was never built.

Hopefully the link works but this box is amazing. No ballast resistor and a rev limiter. Plus Don is a great guy to deal with! Give em a call and they will set you up.

I use one of those boxes on one of my cars with a modified 440 and like it. seems to be very reliable, but it's $200+. I use the LX101 on another car, basically stock 440, and it seems to be reliable (been in use several years) and it's around $40 thru rock auto. for me i'll never go back to any box that has to have all the stand offs at the coil.

I had a Die Hard blow the top off of it when I had driven a little over 80 miles and stop for fuel, the carb boil the fuel over flooding the engine and when it did start it backfired through the dual snorkel air cleaner blowing up the battery shock whiney
My point is battery do gas when over charged and that gas is highly explosive shruggy scope

with the furd coil/HEI module/70's (non mallory) elecronic dist as I posted in the prior noted thread, I didn't have the truck long after I added it (got an offer that I couldn't refuse) but it did start a bit easier so I think it definitely did run/perform better but nothing earth shattering.

Just living dangerously I guess haha

Did you know a can of carb cleaner can create some serious shock and awe?

I can't say what happened, but...The day after, a neighbor asked where the explosion came from whistling

You ever seen them replace jugs in a forklift battery? They use a torch for melting the connector straps. They pull the caps and wzve the torch over the top. Yeah, first thing they ask is if it's been on charge. boogie

Has anyone used or looked into the Rev-N-Nator from R/T Garage? I personally haven’t used one but it piquets my interests, stock appearing but has a rev limiter , can get it plus a firecore distributor and coil for what seems like reasonable prices. work

I found a US made box with a real Motorola transistor on ebay. You may have to look for a while till one turns up. Other than that, Pertronix.
