my son was off road in has 94 swb 5.2/nv3500 and drug the crossmember on some hard lime rock. bent it up pretty good and has the trans mount almost busted apart.

so ? is are the auto and manual trans cross members the same with the mount being specific to each trans?

or do they have their own for each trans combo auto/nv3500/nv4500

the nv3500 is about toast and we do have a nv4500 to swap in maybe.

depends on how hard a cross member is to locate and be the correct one.

I did think of chopping it up and fab one up but R&R of stock one would be much easier & faster.

can someone skool me on the 94 up chassis?

i think they are all the same---we have done auto to manual conversions and the mounts are re-used--also look at the frame and notice it is cantilevered where the mount is at---jack up the tranny--removed the 2 part mounts--push the cross member up about 1 inch and slide it out the back----sometimes it takes a little hammering----putting it back in may require a little prying down to get the bolt holes to line up....just looked at a loose crossmember--there are 2 sets of slotted holes for the tranny mount--check yours....

great info! thanks.

I will have a look at it this weekend and do some searching in the local JY for a replacement.

thanks for the R&R tip. I know I put a clutch in a few yrs back and cross member was a PITA. took a little but got it in there.

I will have a better look this time and may not have such a fight this go round thank to this R&R tip.

when underneath take a look at the frame---to the rear of the cross member it is just a c-frame--straight up and down----at the cross member it is boxed and you can see the angle they added----it looks like if all the bolts fell out it could stay in place with just tranny mount bolts......

LOL! had a look last night...I remember prying it straight down to remove and then got it up in there and it kind of dropped into place... me thinking that was a lot easier then removing it???

it sure did not take much to roll it down and back bending it up ripping mount apart.

went through a dry wash out in a backwoods road, said it dropped down in rut solid bang but never slowed down crawling along dragging the middle of the wash out. he said it graded the edge off and he looked but no big rocks or anything just packed lime rock dirt.
