I've tried a 4160 series carb that would not bolt straight up to my 69 Roadrunner 383HP stock intake. Is it possible to get a 600 or 750 Holley square bore that will bolt right up without an adapter plate of some kind?

4150 and 4160 should have same bolt pattern. Does it not bolt up or do the blades not open? Merry Christmas.

No. Square bore Holleys are all the same. AFB and AVS, not so much.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

This sounds kind of familiar. Is it the bolt pattern, or the Holley linkage getting in the way of being able to tighten the carb properly? It might not need an adapter, but a small spacer to raise the linkage so it doesn't hit the intake.

iagree It's not usually the bolt pattern or throttle bores that prevent the carb from bolting on to a stock manifold, it's the linkage that overhangs the base and won't clear the manifold flange without a spacer.

Bolt pattern and throttle bores were good on the 4160 I had. Issue is the linkages on the left and right side. The carb I started the fit with also had an electric choke. The choke idle screw hit the intake on the rh side. The LH side throttle linkage that hangs down hit on the left side of the intake.

I suppose I need a spacer to raise that carb up a bit?

Have you measured how much additional clearance is needed?

.500 spacer would do it. Holley sells one for the stock intake but the bores are 1 9/16. I need 1 11/16 for the 750cfm I want to use.

Plenty of options for 1/2" spacers available...

Don't sweat it too much for 4 hole spacer. As long as the 4 holes are as large or larger than the carb barrels, it's just fine. Just make sure they are not smaller...

If you are using the stock intake why would you put a holley on it? Put a carter on it and everything works.

I ran the AVS my '69 383 Super Bee came with for a while. It was "OK, but wasn't exactly impressive, either.

Some BB Mopars came with factory Holley 4160s in 1970 & 1971, so it's not like the factory wasn't open to alternatives to Carter.
