Bought a 727 trans for a guy from work and he claims it has a reverse manual valve body in it. I have never seen one with a Chrysler part number on it. Can anyone help id the trans year and valve body. The trans has no vin stamped on it. The trans numbers are 3878001 M4977 8798. The valve body is 37431559. He swears the trans was rebuilt by Mancinni Racing years ago. Thanks for any help.

Turbo action cheetah valve bodies are reworked originals. Look on the separator plate and it will have writing on it with an engraver. That plate is the thin metal plate between the two halves.

The valve body plate only has the number 373 punched through it.

According to CRT's website that number is a 1975 trans.

hi
mopar made and sold all parts to make a manua vb for years .

it would have no special pn stamped on it .

look at the shaft for throttle preasure .

if it is cut off just above the snap ring or if it moves freely full travel with no resistance it would most likely be a manual vb.

The seller claimed it is a REVERSE manual valve body. How can you tell the difference between forward and reverse vb id.

Not everybody cuts of the TP lever shaft when building a MVB; look at the throttle valve, if it extends from its bushing and moves under spring resistance, it's not a MVB but if it's below the level of the bushing, like in the pic below, it's a MVB.

Your spring retainer and lever stop will look different but the end of the valve will be the same.

OK the tp has been cut down. So it is safe to assume it is converted to manual shift. The question remains is it still forward shift or reverse pattern? All my shifters are for reverse pattern shifting. Thank for all the help so far.

"The valve body plate only has the number 373 punched through it."

The "373" plate is a separator plate sold thru the old direct connection program which converts a stock VB into a REVERSE MANUAL. Along with the plate, you needed to mill passages in the transfer plate, remove all the check balls except the large 11/32" ball, and remove the shift springs and block the governor plugs with 1/4" round stock. Refer to the old Direct Connection racing manual for details.

John Kunkel has a pic of the transfer plate with the milled walls.

Hope that answers your question.

Here's a pic of the mods to the '71-later transfer plate, the red areas are where the channel wall is removed. The red circle mod is not factory.
