Does anyone have information or history on these heads. I was told they are a 12 degree head, has mopar logo but appears to be a BBC design ? resembles the B1/TS head but layout is exhaust/intake, exhaust/intake etc not like a true Mopar B1/TS layout.. Eicke knocked off a Pontiac Big Chief head. Look up the Dart Big Chief stuff, same layout, etc. This was after the Wayne County deal, circa 1996-97. They used a GM Merlin block also. The only change Eicke made was to re-design the valve cover surface to look like a B1TS. This was when GM stepped in and wanted the Mopars to run a "GM Performance" decal on the car, and Chrysler stepped up with the Hemi-99 stuff.

Again, the head was re-designed externally to show some similarity to the old B-1 stuff. Note the location of the head bolts, valve layout, and etc between the Eicke-Mopar (Top) and the Pontiac Big Chief (Bottom).

this is the motor, pretty sure it is a Dale Eicke pro-stock mopar(GM). this thing sounds like a beast.. no official paperwork yet as i'm trying to locate the guy that put this motor in. What I know is that the heads are the Eicke heads, sheet metal intake, Gary Williams dominators, jessel cam/distributor drive, jessel rockers, dry sump system. internally I was "told" Bryant crank, alum rods, gibtec pistons, 4/7 cam swap 16:1 compression. it does have some engraving numbers on block - "GRUNT", "&ER003&" intake has "Buzz" engraved on it ? thanks

I don't remember if that architecture was being used when the switch was made in PS to let them use 5 speeds.
Of course, the Wayne County people stuck with idiotic low RPM and torque and kept the 4 speed while the rest of the class figured out 5 gears is quicker than 4 and then developed engine packages to take advantage of that RPM.
Again, IIRC what you are showing is in that time frame of WC taking a dump and the Dodge PS program had to retool and start over.
It's possible you have a short block that was for grunt and an intake that was for RPM.
Or, it's possible it's all be reworked and none of what's engraved on anything doesnt mean a thing.
Just because you think it won't make it true. Horsepower is KING. To dispute this is stupid. C. Alston

Looks like a BBC to me In other words last generation before the 99 Hemi, or in other words a DRCE engine.

Looks like a BBC to me But I see a "B1" that even the NHRA allowed. Aren't there current NMCA rules being 'exploited' in that same vane? e.g.-DRCE/"Old's" weight breaks. I would think these would serve as a good foundation for a Mopar to get more fair weight breaks. Don't even get me started on that engine combo OR the car it is in. The engine is being addressed under the new rule as is the "conventional" head that is approaching 180. Well at least in the "preliminary" rules they have out. Unfortunately Mopar has NO weight break like the BOP engines do. We run under the same rules as Ferds and Chebbies. Then again there as a car running a non stock BS Mopar which is also a no no....But like everything else these days rules seem to be more guidelines than rules anymore

[quote=340KID]thanks - were the GM Merlin blocks a nice piece ? [/quote?I have 2 unused Merlin ProSeries CGI blocks that were left over from that program weither they are exactly the same as what they raced in not sure? The 2 I have are 9.8 deck 55mm cam splayed caps reverse cooling, they were special order with a lot of extra material everywhere just blank lifter area and no head bolt holes.Im gonna say the one or some that Nickens raced were on one of the olds drce cast by "CAT" the yellow tractor people. But after they won or did well rule change and no more.If you want to go fast with a mopar head these blocks are the go. we got the motor out yesterday and was able to get numbers off the back of block.. the numbers are P5249533. Is this a Merlin or CAT ? can't really find much info on this block casting ?

Block is newer than the heads. That is what Mopar sold as a 5" bore space "IHRA Mountain Motor" block. It's basically a Merlin. Designed for up to 800", capable of up to 4.8" bore, 10.72" deck.

This is getting interesting. We dropped motor off to our engine guy tonight and they will be tearing into it soon to document everything. We were told it was a 700 ci but also tend to believe it’s s 500 ci. You have me wondering now?? Maybe it’s a 700 ?? Will know soon what’s inside. It has very interesting water system to each cylinder. Never seen anything like this..
