Most have all been bought up/merged by major investment corps. They are all about the same quality until you get into the custom Billet stuff and most all use Total Seal Rings anyway.
TRW, Fed Mogul, Sealed Power & Fel Pro are all owned by Federal Mogul.
JE, Wiseco, CP/Carrillo are now all owned by PMI (Performance Motorsports International)
Diamond Racing, Gibtec, Trend, Dart are now owned by Race Winning Brands.

Can a basic piston be made(bore size) and leave the ring size and placement AND pin size and location be left up to a later date
Probably, but there will be a weight penalty from extra material to move the pin around, etc. Smaller "window" of specs: less extra weight.

United Engine & Machine, Has been making pistons since 1923. They are 4th generation family owned. They are KB pistons, Icon pistons and they make after market cast pistons. Plus one of the largest diesel piston manufactures in the world. The Icon line which is their forged piston line are off the shelf pistons or custom racing pistons. polyspheric, as for your question. It would not be practical to turn a piston to size and then do the ring package at a later date. Would be almost impossible to get the ring grooves and the ring lands all concentric. Which is very critical for proper function. I would suggest you call or go to Icon pistons web site. www.uempistons.com Or call1-800-648-7970

Bill Jenkins did this with TRW blanks 45 years ago.
