My '72 Swinger needed a replacement for the sliding strip (seal at the front of the door glass). People have been complaining about the cost of replacements for a long time, when they were available at the dealer. Add my voice to the list The only aftermarket one I could locate was $48.95 plus shipping, for ONE piece of thin plastic channel. And it looks like crap and fits like it too. Doesn't even have the required slight curve so it tends to buckle. Does anyone reproduce the proper weatherstrip? Even if I could find an OEM one it might be too brittle after 40+ years to use... thanks Charles

I'm glad I bought several sets years ago. And no, they are not for sale. Saving them for future projects. Ditto.

I always tried to reuse originals and saved a few over the years to use when I needed them... the new ones seem to hard to put the glass up and down.

I bought the NOS ($150 at the time for a pr) they sucked too, esp on a power window set up, with new/NOS motors and refurbished tracks/slider/etc...the NOS might be ok for hand crank windows where you can muscle the glass up/down?, but definitely no go on power windows, I ended up using good used originals, both the repro and NOS seemed to have too heavy a flocking applied IMHO I was so desperate to make the repro or NOS ones work, that I even greased them with just about any lubricant or silicone to reduce drag, but to no avail... plus it gets old real quick changing out glass slides... both the NOS and repro hit the trash can shortly after

I have used the genuine Mopar strips, as well as the reproductions. There is one repro out there that is exact. I'll have to look at an old package to get the brand name. The genuine Mopar strips are fine, but for some reason the white clips they include are too fat. This is what causes the windows to be tight. I have re used the original clips, and if using the clips included by Mopar, I file them down to the right dimension.

The repros and NOS ones I tried, I also played "musical chairs" with the white sliders to no avail... the only thing that worked was nice used original pcs...

Some of the reproduction glass is a bit thicker than the OEM pieces which leads to issues, especially with the reproduction channel. I am only aware of one vendor at this time that manufactures the reproduction channels that everyone sells. Some of the earlier reproduction channels was way too thick and rigid and they did get out into the market place. The current reproduction quality control standard has improved over the years and are usable, just takes more care to install vs the the OEM pieces.

Most of the major vendors offer the reproductions. So you can choose the vendor of your choice. For original Chrysler pieces, you will have to do a bit more searching and be willing to pay considerably more for them. Know what your buying and who you are buying from if you decide to purchase the original pieces. If they are not in the original Chrysler blister pack, I would be cautious as the reproductions have been passed off as OEM pieces.

Welp... I looked at the other door (OEM strip) and discovered I'd installed the replacement strip incorrectly. No wonder it looked so "wrong". So I removed the glass (disconnected the channel from the vent window and slid it out the top). Then attempted to compress the sides of the strip and get it into the channel from the top. I ended up boogering up the end of the strip and it won't fit with the new, thicker nylon slides either. It will just go in with the original slides. I think I need to start over with another expensive piece of plastic. Don't know whether to try wrestling with another reproduction, or hope I can find a 45 year old original that won't crumble if I look at it wrong. Also, I could use some advice on the proper way to remove and reinstall the window & strip. I'm thinking of removing the channel from the door entirely, putting the glass/strip into it, THEN sliding the assembly back into the door. Probably how I was supposed to do it in the first place? Edited to add: I should have done more homework first A search of Moparts found this handy FSM excerpt posted in 2011. Looks like I should have taken the whole assembly off the door and THEN worked on it. Oh well, a $50 lesson A-Body glass install/adjust from FSM: http://www.mediafire.com/?gszqbhz018ecb6r
