I currently have the MP +1 qt plain steel pan w/ a billet filter extension and need to pull the pan & valve body. This would be a good time to upgrade the pan, if I'm going to do it.

What's the best buy / value in a cast aluminum 727 pan? I don't necessarily mean cheapest, since quality of the casting, hardware, etc., factor into this, too. Example: Which ones come w/ a nice matching filter extension, vs. something like the cheesy stamped-steel part I replaced w/ my MP pan?

Is there much benefit by stepping all the way up to a +4 qt model, or is the generic +2 qt sufficient? I always run synthetic ATF and have an external cooler, too.

Thanks - Brad

We use the deep B&M cast pan, seals good and has a port for a temp. gauge.
Has the filter ext. and no scrapes in normal driving.

figured the extra fluid will never hurt....

Put some bling under that car with the Moroso sheet metal pan. That is what I used on the Duster.

I used the Mopar Performance cast aluminum deep pan on my 518 (fits a 727 too) and it has a drain plug as well as the threaded bung for a temp sensor. Bought it off of a member year.

I think Summit sells a branded one just like it only significantly cheaper in price.

No question the finned cast aluminum deep pan is the way to go. Better fluid cooling and a great way to stiffen up the case. I purchased a no name cast finned pan on Ebay for less than 100 bucks. up

iagree That's what my trans builder got for me. Looks just like the TCI piece, but has no name cast into it.

At what point (extra capacity or additional depth below my +1 qt current steel pan) do people start having ground clearance issues? I was surprised by seeing more than a couple people complain about this while reading reviews of different brands/types of deep(er) pans.

Is the pan the low spot on your car in that area now or is it the headers or transmission crossmember?

Brad I am with Andy on the Moroso sheet metal pan it is light, good pan rail, and nice quality. Be aware that some of the cast pans would be lighter if they were made of lead and just stupid heavy for what they do.

I bought one of these and love it. Great quality, and very rigid.

Wasn't too expensive either.

I use the B&M pan also. Nice piece for the money and seems to help keep my 727 cool. I’m pretty sure I added weight to the car though.... aluminum? Yes. Lighter than stock steel pan? NO!

I use the Summit cast pan. I like the idea of stiffening the case with a cast pan. Note that the fasteners which come with it are a little odd. If I remember correctly you need a 12 pt metric socket (10mm?).

Old 47RE on my 727. 42RE pan n my 904. Light and seals like a champ with the Mopar factory gasket torqued at 125”lb. those thick heavy pans do not dissipate heat well. The Moroso pan would be my “go-to” for aluminum.

I'm considering the Moroso, but know of one that leaked due to a flaw in the welding. I would hope that is an unlikely problem to run into.

Never had a problem w/ the trans pan hitting the ground. Oil pan and headers, yes.

Unfortunately, I don't have any pics from before the last tear-down that shows how close things were then.

Junk yard stock 518 pan with A&A filter extension. And the good Mopar pan gasket 2464 324AC. All in for $60 or so.

I just used a summit brand finned aluminum pan. It fit great, looks great, +2 quarts, and was only $150

Yeah, I was looking at the cast Summit no-logo pan, too. Basically, it's $150 + a good gasket for that one, or $220 + a good gasket for the fabricated Moroso pan.

I appreciate people's feedback. Thanks - Brad
