Valve spring shims don't look good. #255374

Had a bent push rod and sent the heads out to get checked. The machine shop sent me home with some damaged valve spring shims. Very interesting, wonder how long they would have lasted.

The spring shouldn't sit on the shim. They should go under the cup.

or locator, either way like Darren mentioned the shims are not meant to have the spring run directly on them.

The springs rotated on them on witch is common. Thats why you put the softer shims Under the harder locater cups. mike

There was a high speed vid awhile back of the springs actions at high rpm. In it you can see the springs rotating, almost a full revolution on some of them. It was a interesting vid. Maybe someone can link it again. mike
