I use a factory gas tank in my mid 10 sec street car. 1/2"pickup, -8 black nylon braided hose to a Holley return style regulator. -6 line to the carb, and -8 return line that goes into the stock gas filler tube. I run 5.5 pounds of fuel pressure and the pump runs quieter and cooler than it did with my previous dead-head setup.
Pump is an Aeromotive Hot Rod polished unit.

How do you know if you have too much pressure, What are the side effects of too much pressure?

How do you know if you have too much pressure, What are the side effects of too much pressure? It will run rich and maybe stumble if fuel is dripping while driving from too much pressure, worse case scenario it can flood past the needle and seat and possibly cause a fire.

That may have been my problem yesterday I was running it at 7 1/2 lbs. Take it down to 5.5 pounds and see how it goes.

I always ran my race Holley carbs with 9.5 lbs. with the motor idling with both .090 and .100 needles and seats back in the day Make sure the fuel level is not high with motor warmed up also

I ran mine at 9 - 9 1/2 lbs also, I think that's what the Holley instructions said. Worked great for many years!! I'm betting they said 7 1/2 MAX.

Why not? I was told by several Mopar backed factory drag racers back then to turn the fuel pressure up a half a pound at a time with the motor running warmed up until the pressure started to lift the needles off of the seat and then back it down 1 pound Not all pressure gauges read exactly the same as all other gauges On my current car with the bigger .130 and .150 stainless steel needles and seats for my E85 fuel carb. and having the pump mounted between the front mounted fuel tank and the regulator mounted on the front of the motor plate I do run it at 5.5 lbs. now with no issues
