I've been reading this forum for a long time but haven't seen this topic brought up recently...... I read about the mythical Hemi A-925 engine that Mopar built to intimidate Nascar from allowing the Ford SOHC to play. Supposedly there were two built. Anyone ever set eyes on one of these monsters?

You may be talking about the overhead cam Hemi Mopar was said to have started on if Nascar let Ford run its 427 SOHC eng which was an overhead cam Hemi eng. I read that Mopar never had one built to actually run but had one that they could turn over with the starter to make Nascar think they already had it running. And it must have worked as Nascar banned any overhead cam engines and it also kinda back fired on Mopar as they also made the rule you have to run a production eng at the same time. And the Mopar 426 Hemi was not a production eng in late 64. But it worked good for us gearhead Mopar lovers as Mopar sat out the 65 year of Nascar racing but then did put the Hemi in production cars starting in 66 and the rest is history. Makes you wonder if Nascar had not made the rule of racing only production engines would the 426 Hemi ever had made it into production cars ? Ron

Ball stud Hemi was A-279, the A-925 was the 4-valve DOHC Hemi.

There was never a complete A-925. There are a few heads floating around out there though. Chrysler did "assemble" one and filmed it to show to Nascar. The engine had no guts, and the gears were driven by an electric motor. They dubbed a regular 426 Hemi dyno pull over the A-925 video and presented it to Nascar, leading to the Hemi/OHC ban.

I thought Tom Hoover(may have been Dick Maxwell) in 92 at Chrysler at Carslie(SIC) said that during the only dyno test of the A925 it cracked the block at the #3 main up into the lifter valley.
