Adjustable 4 link - no go in Stock. Common knowledge. Hard to plead ignorance on that.

I wonder if something got screwed up parts wise, after the crash? Like an assumption at a chassis shop?

IMHO what caused the wreck was two fold. First, over steer before the front comes down. That sends the front end hard right. Then second, if he hadn't lifted at least by the time the car comes down, just too much momentum and power present to recover from.

He looked like he was countersteering with the car in the air...not good
Not lifting early enough...not good
Wrecking a good car....horrible!

Welch was reinstated after welding up the bars.

The cause of the wreck was doing a wheelie in the first place.

I am guessing the tech they go through at the beginning of the event is safety related. During the event checks are done to verify legality for class, for someone like the number 1 qualifier especially.

Correct, 850 cars this weekend. Imagine the time it’d take to do a “real tech” on all of them. Racer responsibility. They deemed it an inadvertent error, otherwise he’d have been tossed.

No wheelie bars allowed, hard to prevent with power like that. I ran 8.92, 53.5 percent on the front, 3065 lbs, carried the front almost to the 60 fts on bars.

Leah had the 8.00. Mark was at 8.02. Welch came in 10th at 8.13.
1st round Leah won with a 8.11. Mark lost to Welch 8.14 to 14.--. Allen Johnson was #4 Qual at 8.10 but lost 1st round. 2 Dodges left.

Now Welch has been dq’d for a throttle body issue.

The FS cars all have wheelie bars.

How in the hell do you get bounced twice in one weekend?

It’d be interesting to know what suspension piece he got in trouble for. There are COPO’s there with adjustable bars. I didn’t see anything adjustable in the back of A. Johnson’s car. They didn’t set a record so didn’t get checked.

The Drag Pac car have a Non adjustable 4 link. I believe 2 of the bars are adjustable in length to set pinion angle. My bet is it either it had 4 adjustable length bars or they didn't want any bars that the length could be adjusted?

Bottom bars in a 4 bar suspension in a stocker can not be adjustable, only the tops. He got caught, claimed it had been like that for years, there is no performance advantage and claims he didn't know. Welded the stuff up and they let him race. Got caught with an illegal TB later on in elims, bounced and his competition reinstated.

After the first problem, he complained about other racers complaining about him to NHRA and declared himself to not be a cheater. Maybe he's ignorant of what parts are on his car or in his motor and legitimately didn't know. I know things happen when you have others doing your work. But he is ultimately responsible for those parts on his car. Will see what comes out of this, but lots of traditional Stock guys are unhappy with him being reinstated from the first issue.
