Has anyone personally used a restrictor plate system like the Willy's 8850 adjustable plate, or the EZ-plate or something similar? How well has it worked? Is there much tuning (jetting, etc difference between when you use it and when you don't?) I've read things online about running lean, others say no difference.

Trying to slow car down 8 tenths for a handful of races next yr so looking at my options. Currently do it once a year by unhooking the secondaries. By doing that and shifting 500 rpm sooner, it puts me right, but seeing if there's a better option/way.

I've thought about a smaller carb, but already running a 750, so doubt a 650 would kill enough.

I plan on racing 2 series, one where I can run the car all out, the other where I need to be 11.50 or slower. The series usually alternate every other week, so need something that can be changed easily.

I made up a mech stop and shifted real early
to get my car to slow up enough to run 10.0 it
worked perfect and was very repeatable.. I needed
something I could take off quickly so I could
run multiple classes

How much did you have to slow up your car and how much of your throttle did you have? I have about 2" of throttle movement, I'm just worried to get it slowed up enough I'll have very little throttle which will make it super lazy leaving.

I had to slow down just over 1 second.. from
8.94 to 10.0.. i used a little over a quarter
throttle and launched at 3200 rpm I had a spring on
the throttle so it would go to the floor but nothing
really changed but it felt right

I run a setup similar to Mr P bodies, a modified Moroso type that bolts to the right rear carb stud I have a Jegs throttle linkage bracket with another hole to hold the stop because using only the one on the carb stud it would move slightly. I am slowing down from 10.70s to 11.50s i have been doing this for 10 years now and have been very successful. I am however considering going to an E.Z. plate , Williys or E.T. Genie for next season but am still researching which setup to use. I just installed a new carb and had to readjust the stop, the secondaries are just slightly opened at present, I ran an 1/8 mile pro dial (5 /10s pro tree) race last weekend and was consistent 7.20.- 7.22 over 5 runs 60fts 1.57- 58 every run ( deep staging) so 1.47-48 shallow. Very easy to adjust i keep a 7/16 wrench behind the seat, loosen both nuts bring in for faster out for slower. Works great ! Looking over my log book I have been as good as 11.50 dead on five times out of 8 runs and have Won two track championships with the setup. I am in a similar situation I plan on running more index races in the future thats why I am considering another set up but have heard pros and cons on both restricter plate setups I might just keep what i have.

I have used and worked with EZ Plate systems in the past. They work great once you get a handle on where you need to be with them and really easy to use.

Which would have less affect on how the car leaves? Limiting the throttle or restrictor plate? With unhooking the secondaries I loose almost a tenth in 60', however the car still response decent and my spot on the tree is almost the same. Just trying to decide if limiting the throttle would mess up the squirters, etc, where as the resistor plate you still have all that working, its just restricted.

I use the ez-plate and have been real happy with it. When I had my 60' predictable (another story), it was about .015 per plate (series of 20 plates). It didn't require a jet change, but your shift points would have to change if you tried a big jump in the plates. I think .8 seconds might be a bit much with this system. Have you tried talking to ez plate about that?

One of the good local Pro Bracket racers bought a externally adjustable throttle plate to use to slow his car down to stay out of the nines, he loves it up
It has 4 adjustable throttle plates in the main plate that he can open or close all four at the same time from the back with a bolt and lock nut wrench
I fool around with a lot of other ways to slow cars down a long time ago before throttle stops and so on, that plate he has is GREAT scope

Pulling throttle with the bolt doesn't bother the the leave. I ran NMCA last weekend at Norwalk. The D/A changed from 2828-3996. With weight and throttle change the car stayed very close to index. Over 3 days 60 ft; 1.316,1.313,1.314,1.313,1.322,1.315. R/T .022,.004,.021,-.006,.017,-.004
