I am looking to clean up the plug wires on my '68 383 which is currently using factory exhaust manifolds. I am missing most of the OE plug wire brackets. I plan to make my own wires but want to use OE brackets to keep them neat and properly routed.

Looking around, I noticed the brackets are slightly different between 68-69. 69 looks a little neater to me? Not sure exactly why though, just a vague notion.

Is there any reason I couldn't use the 69 brackets on a 68?

Thanks for any input.

68 brackets are metal dipped in rubber to protect wire, 69 are metal with plastic insert, plus a few rubber dipped to protect wires, no reason you cant use 69 parts if you dont care about keeping it original. Big plug wires will not fit, 7mm only

No reason why you can't use the 69 brackets on your 68 car, no reason at all. Unless you are trying to maintain a original look. There are only minor differences in the brackets between the two years. Most onlookers won't even notice.

I figured they would be almost identical but wanted to make sure there were no hidden pitfalls like a different accessory layout or some superseded part.

Stinks that the brackets only accommodate 7MM wires, kind of ruins my entire plan. Are there any factory BB wire brackets that will accommodate 8MM wires?

Why not try and file out the holes to fit the 8MM wires? You can always redip them in the rubber coating.

Guess I could do that. Plasti-Dip, correct?

I hate buying stuff then modifying it but realistically, it may be the only choice if I stay with the exhaust manifolds.

Do you have the correct '68 right/passenger's side valve cover with the plug wire brackets attached?

On a B body should be only the one plug wire bracket on the valve cover. Top side along with the wiring harness fold over tabs , holds plug wire #8 along the top of the valve cover near the intake manifold

I know of people who have taken a rat tail file to the plastic separators to use 8mm wires

So I ordered a set of '69 wire brackets with the plastic inserts. Like said above, I'm going to file out the plastic retainers to fit the 8mm wires, seems reasonable enough. Also ordered a tub of Plasti-Dip to re-finish the coated brackets after I hog them out. Not going for a 'factory correct' appearance here but I like to use the factory pieces where I can, just seems to make life easier when trying to fit things. Thanks for the info.
