Is there any size difference in the straps that bolt the U-joint to the rear end yoke. 7260 vs 7290 U-joints. How do you tell any difference?

Cap diameter is different (1.078" vs 1.125"). See attached. I think the fit difference would be noticeable.

yes, there different enough to not work properly when using the 7260 on the 7290 yokes tsk
If you go the other way it will fail also shruggy
The straps are suppose to stop front to rear movement, not side to side. The U joint caps should snap into place and not move at all without the caps scope
If they move side to side it is time for a new yoke up wrench
