I'd like to know if a power steering pump is mechanically the same whether it came on a slant six, small block or big block. I know the brackets are different. Just wondering about the internals and whether or not a specific pulley is required for each size engine. I have a Federal pump form a slant six 69 Dart and was wondering if I could use it on a 440 if I got the right brackets and if necessary, a different pulley.

I read that the \ 6 had the pressure restricted more than V8s, which can be a good thing.

The FSM has the specs, pressure, flow are all different.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

There were 3 manufacturers for pumps in general. Federal is one, Saginaw another and I forget the 3'rd. In general the Saginaw is considered the best and re-popped today new.

No harm in trying the Federal... but personally I would not spend any money on brackets for it. I would look for a Saginaw. May be available reman with minimal core charge (or used or new repop).
