1978 Lil Red. Have a friend with one that has had the driver door sagging for long enough, the sheet metal is getting rolled up and the striker bolt is now ruined. Got the door shutting ok, but now that it's been driven for a while after sitting for 15+ years, the locking/unlocking function with the key is getting weird. I think it needs a latch. The copy he made of another guy's parts book is not complete, and is missing the pic/listing for the door latches.

Curious about what years will work on it, so I can start hunting for a latch and bolt.

I'd take the latch out give it a good cleaning and fresh lube. They're surprisingly durable.

It is swimming in lube (current owner is spray/squirt happy). Took it out last night and there were a couple levers that were bent, so we bent it back and it is still not 100%. Plus, with the door not shutting right for so long, I just feel like anything used might be better than abused.

Had a bunch of ramchargers and a few w150's since 78 or so, and the doors always dropped off of striker when the door is opened. Was extra slop in hinge, but I just adjusted the sometimes hard to get at bolts on hinges and got door back in align, and all was well. Never did replace a hinge.

77 down is a no go. I had one and went junkyard and grabbed a 78 latch. Got home, installed in door to find out the rods didn’t work. They also changed the vent glass in 78 and window lift. Believe that part is the same to 86, maybe the latch is too?

SCG, good info. I'm thinking it's '78-84??? LMC truck lists a latch for 85-93 and same for the striker. Have a lead or 2 that I am looking into.

Funny thing, when working on it the other night, I had gotten the driver door locked and couldn't get it unlocked. Walked around and crawled across from the passenger side. Went back around to continue working on the driver side when I noticed the passenger side was now locked. I thought, "Why did the owner lock the passenger when I was just in it?". Well, he didn't. I unlocked it and went around to open the door and roll the window down, just so we didn't get the whole thing locked up solid. After rolling the passenger window down, I shut the door.......and watched the lock knob go down. What the heck? Yep. Pulled the lock knob up through the open window and opened the door and shut it........and the lock knob went down, LOL. At least it can be unlocked with the key easily.

This truck is lock-cursed.
