Thank you for clearing that up. Guess our's is a 426. Do you know if the block is thicker on the 426 than the 413? Pretty sure our engine builder told us it's .060 over. Can't find our receipt with the specs after Dad moved. The block I got was a 426--4-1/4 bore, I had it bored 60 over, rite out of the crane. I traded a 3-3/4 crank for it, seems he had picked up an early industrial 413 with the extended crank and needed the later style crank to mate back up to ?? Never asked if the engine ran the truck or the crane.

IF you don't care, post up some pictures of the spark plugs and combustion chamber. I am intrigued by that design. Never ever saw it before. And I thought I had worked on every Mopar block ever made. Here's a couple of pics for you. First to show you how the spark plugs are positioned and the 2nd to show how much taller these heads are than standard BB heads. The intake manifold is supposed to work on normal heads, but I have not verified this. I'm planning on stripping it to the shortblock this weekend, get some more pics, and post for yall on Monday.

IF you check the casting number lists, there is ONE casting number that was used for 413 AND 426 industrial engines. There are, I believe, other industrial 413 casting numbers and industrial 426 casting numbers. AS WITH ANY MOPAR CASTING, let the sonic checker tell you the answer. That "underbored 440" crap is just that, crap.
The problem with 413s is that they should be free engines, the same as 318s and 361s. But give a novice a "bigblock Mopar" engine and he'll think it's gold. Those motorhome 413s show up on Craigslist for $800, makes me puke. Now if they were priced right, they might be interesting. But a 360 with a 4" crank and decent heads will outrun one in the same car.

A few more pics...got the heads off. Trying to get it unstuck. Valve sizes are real small...1.88 intake, 1.50 exhaust.
The intake manifold from this 413 motor WILL work on any other RB w/ the typical cylinder heads. I bolted it on a 440 I have on another stand and it fit right up.

Digging this old thread back up for a quick update. I bought a sonic checker and checked the walls on this 413 block. Like Cab, dogdays, and others have said...you can't bore this thing to 440 bore size. There's enough meat to go .060" or .070" oversize, but no more than that.

Good timing, Top fuel Mike is getting some 413 pistons made ( hopefully) with some decent compression. But it’s still a truck motor and just like the 383 a small bore cousin of a better option (400)... Oh yeah, mine 413 is going in a 64 D200, which is a ‘truck’ cos I can’t find a 426 boohoo... I was gonna use the ‘truck’ heads but they is so flipping heavy it’s scary...

I have a couple of those engines laying around in the barn from motor homes. Complete from carb to pan including accessories. One still has the tranny attached. Just use them for nuts and bolts for other projects.

I figure I'll hold onto it mainly b/c it has a good forged crank and a set of LY rods. It's wrapped up and sitting in a corner under some shelves next to a bunch of 440s. I got rid of all my low deck stuff, so this one fits right in, lol. It is nice to have some extra complete core motors for random parts every now and then.

If I remember correctly the crank is the older design from the fifties?
About 1/2” longer and Eight bolts? Great for a custom build but no good for a stock trans.

I had an 8secs Street Dart back in the 90's too. (in Avatar) Koffel 547ci engine with a bruno lenco ran 8.30 @ 180 best ever!

If you are not going to use those heads, I could use the set of push rods and head bolts for a frankenstein 440 with 413 heads I am building. They are too long to work with regular heads. I would have gladly given them to you, but they went to the scrap yard 2 years ago shortly after I started this thread.
