Also, for example How is a 2003 Ford F-150 able to use a u-joint and not a pot coupler?
Typically newer cars have a slip yoke style steering column. My experience has been that it is primarily that way so that it can be assembled easier in the plant. That said, I have a borgeson ujoint.
