Didn't Indy remake this intake?

Anyone got pictures of it and how they liked it?

You can buy these intakes new now, but the carb spacing is different than stock. I did the mod to my intake, but I don't have enough experience to comment on how it does. Most people say that it isn't that good for a street engine, due to tuning problems. I can't say.

I Dyno tested the vanke vs the stock intake on a 484" hemi. It was a long time ago, so I don't remember the exact numbers, but the vanke did very well. If it needs to look stock, do it. Otherwise the stage v and the Edelbrock will both kick it's but.

Yall, I'm pretty sure Dragula is referring to the dual plane single 4500 hemi manifold that Arlen Vanke had made back in the day and Indy is now making new. Not a street hemi dual quad manifold w/ the Vanke modification.

Here's a link to a build that used one...

Looks like this one...

I work with an old Super Stock 60's racer from "back in the day" I had a dual inline four bbl street Hemi intake that I modified & did the "Vanke" treatment to it & drove it all over the street for years with dual Edelbrock 1407 (750 CFM) Carbs. The +.060" over Hemi loved the induction set up. No back to back comparison over a stock intake though. He says it is worth 40-50 H.P. at higher RPM.

8sec cuda, does the Vanke intake make a good street manifold? How do you think it compares with single plane 4 barrel intakes like the Indy Dominator, or the Barton with a Dominator?

Lee446...I've never run one myself, but it sure seems like the single 4500 Indy/Vanke manifold would be an awesome street hemi intake. Obviously lacking the upper rpm power for a big inch motor, but very strong low and mid range.

Just remember, like I mentioned in your post, there are 2 versions of Indy single plane/single 4500 manifolds. The Barton manifold is kind of in the middle power-wise b/t the 2 Indy pieces.
I'm partial to Dominators, so if I had a milder street hemi...I'd definitely want to try the Indy/Vanke manifold.
I have a 540" hemi I will assemble one day for my dad's road runner (4 speed and 3.54 geared Dana, 100% street driver). Pretty mild hydraulic roller, unported Edelbrock/MP heads, and a factory street hemi dual quad intake w/ the Vanke mod done to it. If he wasn't dead set on running 2 carbs on a hemi, I'd get one of the dual plane 4500 Indy/Vanke manifolds for it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for the info! I talked to Thumperdart for quite a while last night and he wants to build me a 1200Dominator that he feels will help me out. Now I am trying to figure out which manifold would be the best choice for my heavy street car. I was looking at the Barton single plane Dominator also, but it seems like the indy is a bit lower although I have an A12 lift off hood so its not a deal killer. Any Indy dealer you recommend? Thanks much for all your help! Lee.

Lee...Fast68plymouth (Dwayne Porter) is an Indy dealer.

The Indy 426-3 is 6 and 1/2" tall.
The Barton is 7 and 9/16" tall.
The Indy 426-4 is 8 and 1/4" tall.
Measured w/ the manifolds sitting flat on a table.

From my own testing on my 572" hemi, the Barton is equal or better to the Indy 426-3 down low in the rpm range and definitely better up top.
Only downside to the Barton is it's tall and heavy. 10+ lbs. heavier than the Indy manifolds. The Indy 426-3 gets used a lot b/c it's short.
The Indy/Vanke dual plane manifold will obviously be better down low and have better driveability, but at the expense of upper rpm power.

The big Indy 426-4 is a serious piece. My 572 lost a lot of lowend grunt w/ it and slowed down (naturally aspirated) compared to the Barton. It belongs on a serious engine.

Below is a pic showing the height difference b/t an Indy 426-3 and the Barton manifold.

The 1200 I mentioned is a bored main body but I add skirted banjos to help w/velocity and on my Dart it's worth 2+ mph so far and torque down low and in the mid where it's needed.......... thumbs

For comparison, here's a pic of the big Indy 426-4 on the left and the Indy 426-3 on the right. At the time, I didn't have a Barton manifold in the shop to compare.

Sorry for the post picture hijack Dragula!

I use to have all that information on rejetting of the carbs and stuff like that with a Dual Four Vanke modified intake. I think I still have the intake. FHO did some testing on this intake and others. I think the gains were not great but that would depend on how much you are looking for and the application you are using it for. 30 to 50 HP would be nice for stock type street car.

Had a nice talk with Dwayne and got the Indy Vanke Dominator manifold ordered, should have it in a week or so. Sending off my Isky redzone roller lifters to be rebuilt with the solid bushing replacing the needle bearings. Spending money like a druken sailor!
