Can't recall to have seen this mentioned here on Moparts but is anyone using Raspberry Pi, Odroid or anything else as a built-in car computer in their older car?

Just got myself an ODROID XU4 mini-computer recently to be installed and used as a permanent car-computer in my '73 Dodge Dart.

The Dart already has a MegaSquirt MS3X ecu and the plan is to be able to program and tune the engine with TunerStudio through the onboard car computer.
On all other occassions it can function as a media-player.

Not sure yet what route to take for a monitor, as I want the installation of it all be invisible due to possible theft.
So the monitor should be able to be mounted in a slot or something and be easily pulled out when needed.
I would really like to use an older iPad as a remote screen simply because of the hardware and battery quality.

Anyone done something like this in their Mopar?

I have never done it but I have seen some references to guys with Megasquirts using them to drive electronic dashes.

With everything an old Android phone or tablet will do, why bother? They sell articulating mounts you can snap the tablet to and just remove it when you want. Mount a Bluetooth audio unit in the dash for your stereo connection and use a Bluetooth on the megasquirt as well.

The major problem w/ the Pi is that it is very susceptible to power loss. You need to have a way to cleanly power down the device else it will corrupt the SD card where the OS resides.

I bought an old Nexus 7 tablet for my in car entertainment/gps/digital gauges/back up camera display.

I've currently got a fairly recent Windows tablet. This works fine for simple and quick tuning of the MegaSquirt, but the crappy little thing's battery is already starting to fail. Same deal happened with the 2 used laptops I used for tuning MegaSquirt before this.
The tablet sometimes suddenly turns off with its battery at nearly half full.
Already have the screen at it darkest setting, no un-used services running in the background and battery-saving mode is ON too. Also tried reviving the battery but to no avail. IMO the cheap hardware just doesn't cut it.

Getting a bit fed up with failing cheap and old computer hardware, I now want a permanently mounted device that I can trust will work when I need it.

I've read about the power up/down issues with these mini-computers.
The ODROID I have has a 16GB eMMC as storage. Not sure if data-corruption can/will occur too at sudden power offs?
