With either one, do you get a chance to get licensed? Door car or dragster?
I went to one (neither of the ones you mention) about 17 years ago, I chose the door car class. I learned a bunch but it was a frustrating experience since I didn't get licensed.
What I learned most of all was that I didn't know jack. It was scary getting into a detuned Pro Stocker without ever having been in a car with any sort of real power before. Out of the three of us in the door car group, only one made the licensing runs. The people in the dragster class had a much easier time, they all went down the track no problem.

I went to Frank Hawley about 3 or 4 years ago at Gainesville. Frank himself taught the course. He goes into a lot of the psychology of racing and winning, as well as safety and how to drive the car. We spent about a half a day in the classroom and then alternated between making passes and analyzing them in the classroom. It was a two-day class. Frank didn't yell at anybody he encouraged everybody and was a good teacher. I would recommend it. You get 6 passes for the money and a license if you do your job behind the wheel. Every pass down the track received a grade of either pass or fail. You had to pass the last four to get the license. If you need or want extra passes, you have to pay for them. There are different types of race cars that you can sign up for at varying ET capabilities and costs. I drove a 9.2 second Firebird door slammer. Somebody else in the class was driving a pipe rack that went eights if I remember right. The only thing I wish he would have done different is had a video camera in the car for analyzing the pass. He did have external video to review.

I need not someone screaming or belittling me while I’m trying to figure something out. Help me! Don’t yell at me! Hey, we don't need any Division six racers getting smarter than the rest of us AKA, go, learn, and have fun I have told more then one NHRA class racer that there is probably around ten thousand different ways to lose a drag race, I was around 8,996 at that time the last time I told that to the driver of S/G 74 around 12 years ago

That's the truth! Wish I had started writing them down. Reading the list would sound like Forrest Gump taking about the ways to make shrimp.

My bracket racing days were not too successful finishing wise. My first time at Fremont Raceway with my parents new '71 Road Runner 383 auto I won a trophy in some amateur class for newbies. I didn't know what I was doing, but I guess the others participating knew even less than me, only reason I came out on top. Once someone wins that trophy, they are ineligible to participate in that class, so it was the only time I was racing against pure novices.
When I finished my 273 A body bracket car ('65 Valiant four door, four speed) there was almost always a little glitch that kept me from winning every round. However, a couple of times I did place in the "money".
On one of those rare occasions, I went up to the tower to collect my $35.00 (this was circa 1975) I was also paid a $10.00 bonus. Come to find out the "bonus" was for running two consecutive races at the same EXACT elapsed time (ie. 13.25 followed by another 13.25). Of course, don't remember what my ET's were that day. I do know my fastest time was 12.72 @ 108 MPH which was kinda freaky because normally I was running low 13's.
When I switched from 273/318 cylinder heads to 340 cylinder heads the car ran the same or maybe a little slower. At the time, I could not figure out why no improvement with the larger ports and valves. Today when I look back on it, I think the larger chambers caused a drastic loss in compression (something I did not even consider at the time).
