Third rock from the sun.
Seasons Greetings All, picked up a set of the repop R/T side scoops a little while ago. They appear to be a very nice, accurate piece. Similar to the originals, these have that little bracket on the inside that seems to serve no purpose. On these repops, there is also some wire sticking out of the same bracket. Anyone have any idea what it's for? The wire will have to be cut off or bent down for the scoops to fit flush. Thoughts??

I would figure that the wire bracket would go through a hole the 1/4 panel some how and act as one of the mounts. Are there no instructions in the kit or online at the sellers site? In any case I wouldn't be altering the mount until you are sure it needs it. Seems to me that they wouldn't include it if it wasn't necessary.

Try posting this in the restoration section. It might get a quicker correct answer.

Just a wild guess,

If you unscrewed that bracket and flipped it over, and mounted from inside, the wire loops looks like it would snap into the hole and locate the scoop.

On 2nd thought, maybe you drill a hole smaller than wire loops and just press fit through quarter panel?

No instructions at all Stumpy. I've had a look at an original one, it had that little bracket as well just not the wire sticking up. I was thinking it was a bracket/mount used in the production process. I won't mess with anything till I figure this out.

Someone has to have a factory service manual with mounting instructions for those scoops.

You answered your own question, it's an assy line component to retain the scoop after it was plopped on, so that only one line operator (working inside the vehicle) was needed to tighten it from inside, no need to have an assistant hold it in place so that it wouldn't fall off...it'll aid you as well if working alone, items like this were prepainted and delivered to the line, when the optioned/equipped vehicle/model came down the line, the required part was plopped on, the worker(s) only had seconds, not minutes to install and fasten parts...

the scoop you saw (off the car) minus the clip, was no doubt pulled in haste, or unknowingly of the types of fasteners used, and the wire retainer was pulled off

If I remember on those clips there also should be a little foam circle that when clipped on to the car kept the water out. I do not see them on your clips....

Thanks Dayclona, so does that mean I need to drill another hole in the quarter for it? I've got some help working on the car, less holes the better, seems like we could work with the three for the studs.
