I know it's been beaten to death about balancing slicks but what about the Hoosier QTP's.............I'm getting new tires here soon and even though I didn't balance the 28x10.5 slicks and they seem fine, was curious if the Hoosiers are similar in that respect...........thankxxx......... thumbs

If they are screwed to the rims it would be worth it, no reason not to? If not I wouldn't bother because they will probably move at least on the first hit anyways.

you should at least bubble balance them - and use the tape on weights on the inside of the rim - I tried once to high speed spin balance a 14 x 32 slick - that was a scary experience!

We used to run Hoosiers on the Camaro. Never balanced a set.

Well I have performed an experiment to answer at least in my head this debate with a few tires. First off with slicks it is pointless, after one race day they are not balanced at all, both big and small slicks seem to show the same affect. Did the same thing with a set of ET Streets, same result. After a few burnouts the balance is off. Your mileage may vary....

I balance all the tires I mount myself on my old bubble balancer up
I had one set of Firestone that would shake horribly unbalanced , balancing them helped but they where way out of round whiney I bought those tires from Parnelli Jones race tires in L.A. and had them ship up to me.
Back then when you bought tires at the races all the tire companies balance every set on a bubble balancer, I'm sure they still do work

I have my Drag Radials Road force balanced, made a big difference not shaking the car.

We use my bubble balancer on every set of slicks we own after I had a bad vibration years ago and lost a race because of it. I also noticed my bolts on my cars never loosen up like they did before I balanced my slicks.

iagree Unless screwed down, if you hook hard the tire is going to move which will wreck the balance.

The bigger the tire, the more they will need balancing. The MT 295s on the Cuda now, needed over 4 ounces per tire. eek

No matter the car, you will be able to feel that much on each corner. Besides, that vibration has to have some affect, eventually.

Master, again and still

I always speed balance my slicks. Never tried force balancing them. Might find out if that is possible on our new equipment.

I always balanced my tires. Run 'em 50 passes or so and balance them again. We used a slow speed spin balancer. In the past I used the old Snap On machine that you spun up by hand. That one worked great and I see they still sell a newer version but I haven't seen any of them around in a while. I pay attention to vibrations, etc., and balancing definitely made a difference. And it didn't cost me anything so it was a no brainer.
