YEP....That's exactly how I do it....Ive got it down to about 20 mins for a pair. You need a good press and an air chisel
PITA- took the better part of yesterday to remove both bushings using a damaged cold chisel and air chisel.
Mike / Alan, can you post a pic or list the size chisel you used to get them out? Mike looks like you got them out intact - mine were completely mangled since I could not keep the metal folding over - it just chipped off in small pieces.
I probably messed up the inner surfaces as well

I made a tool that I could use to push out the center post from the bushing with a gear puller. This was a length of pipe that slid down on the center post and was held on with the nut. On the pipe I welded two nuts 180 apart this was for the gear puller to grab on to. Turned the lead screw on the puller to force out the center post, once apart. Then use a BFH and chisel to remove the outer metal shell. A cutoff wheel on the center post removes the inner sleeve. Then put the new bushing in the freezer over night and use a press to in stall the new bushing and center post. I will try to post a picture later.

Sorry I didn't see this post until a few minutes ago. I used a 3/8" or slightly larger diamond tipped/shape chisel to cut and compress (mangle) the metal bushing like this:

Well, I know this thread has been stagnant for a while, but I have just done the same - I used a hammer, chisels, and some old school muscle to get mine out. Thanks to the trick with using a Dremel tool to make that initial incision, the rest went reasonably quickly. Here's my question, though...when I dug out my polyeurethane bushings, I noted that the Energy Suspension kit I have does NOT include the metal sleeves I just worked so hard to remove. Does anyone know of a source for just the sleeves, or will I have to get a complete set of bushings, (such as MOOG, etc) pull the rubber out, and replace it with the poly?

Just in case...
First check if the poly bushings are sized to fit without the steel sleeve.
I've seen this on another car when switching from OEM rubber to poly.
Don't know where to get just the steel sleeve. - Art

Use a drill and bit to drill into the bushing until it loosens the inner sleeve then just push out the rubber and inner sleeve. Outers still require force

I press out the rubber/inner shell then use a large tap. Put a washer in to protect the tap, use a vise to hold the tap, screw control arm on and press out... easiest way I found. I can't remember the tap size offhand, but got one on ebay brand new for like 15 shipped. One removed, just cut the shell off and do the other side.
I used to do other ways mentioned in the thread... but saw a post here a few year back and tried it this way and won't consider any other way now.

Similar to the large tap, this tool expands inside the bushing and snags it. Then you inch it out with a threaded rod. Takes only a few minutes. Link. But I bought their multi tool kit years ago and didn't pay that much for the one tool.
