I have had some inquires over the last six months about the mod I had done to one of the NHOA / Dave Jones empty battery cases from the mid 1980s.

Great work! My green top has been sitting on the garage floor, hooked up to a battery tender for two years. I have it sitting on a couple old buffing wheels to insulate it from the freezing concrete during the winter months. I needed to test my convertible top motor the other day and the battery still had juice...I was surprised. When it finally dies, I'll be doing the same thing.

Are those two posts something you bought or did you make them?

I just drilled, tapped & bolted right into my existing battery posts. Still going strong after 3 years or so on this one.

Great idea, how do you empty a battery in the first place. I've never done that.

Does anyone sell empty cases? probably not.

I would really love to see the pics and the process as well. If anyone has the steps, especially the neutralization and gutting of the battery that would be great.

Some of the repro batteries are just a small battery inside a larger case, so its not much more than cutting around the bottom perimeter, disconnecting the electrical connection, and reconnecting the new battery.

How did you get the top off?

As you can see from my pictures. I cut off the bottom & gutted mine from underneath. It takes quite awhile to get everything out of it without breaking the outer case.
