Seems to be an already pre selected group or invitational type thing for racers. I signed up to the do car show. Seems like a cool event. I hope it takes off and they can make a good event out of it.

... the schedule states, racing from 5-8pm... That's it? Three hours for all the on-track activities? How much can they do in only three hours, unless they've limited it to about a dozen cars total?

Then start the event earlier before the 'hood-ites come out after sundown. Well, that's just an OPINION from someone who has never been to Detroit, but lived and/or worked in LA & Washington, D.C., both of which have their "off limits" areas, too. I hope the event goes well, just seems like there isn't enough time to do it right.

I see areas of Detroit getting better all the time. Is it a quick turn around, no. But can tell you the last few years are remarkable. My bet it won't be any different than grudge night at Milan. We go to Detroit frequently. Are there some bad spots, yes. I've gone over and done some post production debug at nights at JNAP assembly not far from there, never had an issue Doug I agree with this completely. I moved here in 2002, and what the city is now compared to when I moved here is incredibly impressive. Even in the mid 2000's when you still could see fires burning on devil's night, and it had a terrible reputation, I always was able to explore without issue. Spent lots of time in Hamtramck and have been to many shows at Harpos, never have had issues. The 3 roughest blocks of Detroit are on the west side if I remember correctly, too.

Guys, this event, probably the first of its kind in Detroit is not tailor made for everyone. It is the first year and if it gets great reception and turnout even with 20 cars, then they'll do again either next year or when warm months allow for a weekly thing. I'm going to try my best to go as a spectator at the very least just to see first hand what this becomes, rough neighborhood or not. This is a great thing for y'all in the (D) I mean, back in the day most of us city dwellers did not expect go to the street races on Park Avenue or Madison Avenue here in New York or Boston Edison or Jefferson Avenue in Grosse Pointe in Michigan, No, we went to the roughest, blighted neighborhoods where the real action was. Could it be shady in those parts, yes, but the Police are involved and most of the bad boy cars are well known in the rough parts of town anyways, that's why they are considered outlaws in the first place. Just be careful and smart on how you navigate these areas for any occasion. Let this be in the spirit of the late great Big Willies dream; "For creeds of all kinds to bring the cars and breath. I say, give this one a good pulse in the arm for the sake of having the Cities Mayor, Police Chief on your side of the table while having some respectable fun.
Here's your chance to get those grudges off and runnin'
I wish they could do the same here at Floyd Bennett field or out on Long Islands Grumman facility. Time and participation will tell. Perhaps, you Detroiters will give notion to other cities to try and dip their toes in the VHT.
Bring 'em boys and gals.

I have only been here since 2012, but visited often in the early/mid 2000's.
Even in the last 5 years there have been drastic improvements, but they are limited to certain areas...I hope to be moving down there soon, the toys might have an offsite residents in the sticks though...
I hope the event is a success, and they will open it up to more cars in the future.
