Any one ever made their own 60 from a truck axle and used stock b body 8 3/4 length axles?

Axles are 30 spline after market. I'd rather use an off the shelf axle as opposed to custom.

I could buy new aftermarket stock length dana 60 axles but I'm not sure there is one that's fits my 65 b body.

I ask this as I understand the dana used different length shafts than the 8 3/4.

When I set this all up, truck housing, 30 spline power loc, dr diff ends and bearings and my 8 3/4 shafts I hadn't thought about the dana having different shaft length/off set.

I used to care but....... things have changed

Moser will re-spline what you have if need be.

Wish I was more help but when I built mine from a truck rearend I ordered custom mosers

A co-worker of mine used OEM '68-'70 B body 30 spline axles. Then he cut down a truck Dana 60 (many had 30 spline carriers) so the equal 8 3/4 length axles would work (Dana 60 has different length axles), replaced the ends with automotive style and moved spring perches.
He put it a 4 spd '69 Hemi RR resto project that he bought minus drivetrain.

The aftermarket axles from Dr. Diff are dirt cheap and come with bearings and flanges. Don't bother getting the screw in studs from him, however. Everything else was good including the spool.

The small extra that the axles cost are worth it.

Had a E-body 8-3/4, cut the housing ends off it and welded the ends to the truck housing and used the axles from it in the a truck housing. Pinion ends up slightly off center, But it has no issues with vibration. Would do it again, only cost was the truck housing $100 and time.

Just center the housing and use the 8-3/4 axels, done. Every housing I ever cut down was centered, NEVER a problem. Depending on the tires (slicks), will be how long the 8-3/4 axels last, street car, do it. Only problem with Dana, limited gear choice, no 2.76 ratio.

shock Who would really want a 2.76 ratio in a Dana 60 when the 3.0? ratio is available in the Dana 61 shruggy

For a Dana "60" it's 3.54. If you like spinning around at 3000 rpm all the time go for it. I'm hoping my 29.5 tires will tone my 3.54 down a little. If to low then the 4.10s. Depends on your driving pleasures.

Thanks for all the replies. Guess I was over thinking it.

One more question - since I don't have thrust butting and presumably don't need them how much clearance did you set up between the axle and the cross shaft ?

I figure a 1.75" axle end gap for aftermarket/fabricated Dana 60 rears.
