Random question. Do only trucks with power steering need these? That is darn good question - I have no idea on the answer though. Not even sure if the non-power steering box mounts the same. Maybe some others can confirm for us both

This first truck I seen that had one......already had work done to repair quit a bit of the frame. Makes me wonder if the dealer's put them on if something had happened and needed them....I bought one like eight years ago now from LilRed7879.

Here is the only truck I've seen one on. Sorry for the crappy photos....there was a lot of welding on the otherside and in front quit a bit.

Old post!
So this will fit a '79 W150 with the additional hardware, right? I'm hoping it's a 72 thru 93 deal.

Anyone have one on a '79-ish 4wd that can give me some tips?

Thank you. Do you know what year that truck is? So far the stuff I've seen and read about was on a '93. While similar, I just want to make sure before ordering that my '79 will be the same install.

Glad I saw this thread, I've been looking for one of them. Ordered it this morning. Thanks Dave.
Now if we could just get wing window weatherstripping for the 87 to 93 trucks that would be great!! (hint, hint)

I could swear I read somewhere that it was also a good idea to box the frame in a small section somewhere near the gear, but now I can't find where I read that. I'm pulling the engine in my '79 Power Wagon and installing the brace at that time, so it would be the time to brace anything else. I'm not going to be doing any hardcore off-roading or towing, but now is the time to do anything preventative.
Any ideas appreciated.
Larry

That's it, thanks! Does that play well with the steering brace I just ordered? I'm trying to picture everything together but sitting at my computer without all the pieces It kind of looks like it's one or the other to me, but what do I know? I'll answer that; not much! Thank you.

Thank you. Here is a install article for that strengthening kit. http://ramchargercentral.com/articles/?sa=view;article=176 It looks like the brace would still go on the back as the bolt pattern will be the same, but you will need to put a new hole in the front crossmember and possibly do some bending/tweaking. I personally wouldn't do both, the factory solution should be good enough.
