Hi All,

A quick question: the ground strap for the gas tank sending unit is basically just a strap (or wire) that is attached to the fuel line of the sending unit and then again to the fuel line on the other side of the rubber piece that connects the two pieces of hard line, right? This is on a 1971 Charger.

I am having a gauge problem and I think my strap is loose on the sending unit side.

Thanks.

Greg

Yep,thats what it does. Maybe you'll get lucky and that is the problem. Good luck.

Thank you, I am about 99% certain that is the problem.

grab your jumper cables & a small jumper wire with alligator clips on each end & connect the batt neg post all the way back to the sender metal nipple itself & see if the gauge straightens out & if it don't, holler back.

Piece of wire and 2 fuel line clamps make the jumper you need.

Thanks Robert, I had heard of this trick, but wasn't smart enough to think of using jumper cables to get from the battery to the rear of the car.

I've bought both the stainless repop and the steel repop that are commonly available and they both suck. The stainless has no spring properties and after you snap it around the fuel line it is loose. The steel version is too stiff and you have a devil of a time getting it on. Stumpy's suggestion is indeed a workable one even if not purely stock.

This works well to ground the pick-up to the fuel line using single strand copper wire. It works even better if you continue the wire to a solid chassis ground.

I just make up a wire. Then attach it to the sender with a small clamp and the other end I use a small sheet screw to body.Works better than the factory setup. But I dont have show cars so a small screw isnt a problem.Rocky

This is how I made mine too.
