I had a 74 fury hiway patrol car with a 440 & iirc (30 yrs ago) it was a forged crank with 6 pack rods & had that specific special balance.

4 T 440 E HP

4 = 1974
T = Trenton MI engine assembly plant
440 = cu in
E = cast crank
HP = high performance

Good find. If the price is right , grab it. Hard to find K code
police cars.

What's a "K" car, and what makes it unique?

I will never forget when I moved to Chicago in 1986 I went to the big junkyards on Archer and the Cal Sag channel and all the cop cars from the Blues Brothers movie were stacked like cord wood 4-5 high and 200' long. eek I was stupid enough not to ask if any were for sale... realcrazy They were all from Mr. Norms too! pity

Here's a '74 K code Fury.
Looks like a good parts car to restore another '74 K code.
No title, missing outside trim...but cop parts are there.

"What's a "K" car, and what makes it unique?"

The second letter in the vin code "K" represents a police package vehicle.
Severe duty suspension, transmission and power steering coolers ,etc is
what makes the car unique compared to the civilian models.
Very rare to find police vehicles from the 60's through 70's, which
makes them unique.

Been on the road to Kissimmee to get the car for 2 days. It is a real PK41 but too far gone with lower rust for me. Will strip drivetrain this weekend. Has E86 HP steel crank 440 with correct exhaust manifolds, trans and carb, 85 amp alternator, 3 core radiator (needs rodding) and the 9.25 rear (not Posi). No antiroll so think it was ordered as an unmarked car. No Q beams etc. Ran the VIN, never stolen. Has the quick ratio steering, good front cap and front fenders, good trunk lid and gas flap. Restorable cop seats. The rest is junk. Going to CRUSH. Stephen 337-499-44 three five if you want any parts, doors glass etc. 2 cases of beer!!!

You poor southerners with your rust free cars, all of you should move to the midwest for a few years and you will see how little rust is actually on that car... laugh2

I'm less than an hour from Kissimmee. Missed that posting.

Florida isn't that easy on cars. It's so damp here, and rains so much. The Sun beats up the window seals, the rain eventually gets in, and bye bye floors, trunk, etc. The rest stays damp for hours.

Motor apart and short block in great shape. Heads not so much as car must have sit outside for a LONG time. Doubt that I will even bore it. Heads may clean up. Will strip the few remaining parts and off to the crusher. I guess the E86 fender code was right. Small balancer 375 HP 440 with 727 tranny combine with other parts was worth the fuel and the $800. Keep the torsion bars . . . they are the thicker bars, that are hard to find for C bodies !!! If they are correct length, then can be used in 69 and 70 C bodies !!!

Yes, I am keeping all the "Cop motor, 440 plant, cop shocks, cop tires, cop suspension" as Elwood said. The remains are listed in the parts for sale. Still some good stuff on it. A member up the thread will get the steering box if Firm Feel doesn't need it. Thanks

is the "E" stamped on the top pad from this engine (w/forged steel crank) or was that a different car?

On the side of the block just above the freeze plugs, sometimes you will find a strengthening support or "rib" cast into the block. This was started in the 1969 model year on 440's (E 440 code on the ID pad), or approx mid '68 casting date. This is an improvement that was instituted around this time and lasted until the end of production.

We have the E stamp and the "rib" and a steel crank with the small balancer. Stock build for the Bluesmobile.
